Mercedes Schlapp doesn't have an easy gig as the White House strategic communications adviser. The White House's advisor to strategic communications Mercedes Schlapp has faced a myriad of issues. They include Presidents who has his own director of communication and multiple legal disputes that could disrupt the messaging strategy. But through it all Schlapp is focused on the mission at hand, working closely with the White House's policy as well as legislative affairs and policy shops as as the broader communications operation for policy-related rollouts. In her current position she's been focusing on various topics, including safety at schools and opioids. Schlapp isn't involved with journalists often in her current position. She received lots of attention from the media when her name was mentioned as a possible contender for the position of succeeding Hope Hicks in the role as communications director. The debate has been ugly.Mercedes Schlapp doesn't enjoy a smooth job of an adviser to the White House strategic communications adviser. The White House strategic communications adviser must deal numerous legal issues that may affect the communications strategy of the administration, as well as Cabinet secretaries who are involved in scandals of their own. Schlapp did not change her mission, and has was closely involved in conjunction with White House policy and political teams. In the beginning, she is focusing on safety at school problems, addiction issues infrastructure, trade, and addiction. Schlapp's current job doesn't involve any contact with journalists. It was in March that she gained a sudden burst interest, after it was it was reported that she would be a potential candidate to replace Hope Hicks's job as director of communication. It hasn't been a pleasant fight. Schlapp was a ally of Tony Sayegh, who was an aspirant. The two began fighting in the media. Schlapp stated to the Washington Examiner that she spoke with Sayegh about a recent negative article on him.
